High Point Method Variations

As with the High Point method, a First receives the highest score. Each yacht is scored one point for finishing (see Finish Bonus) and one point for each starting yacht it beats. The variations on this are listed below.

High Point Average Method:

A First receives the highest score.  Each yacht is scored one point for finishing (see Finish Bonus) and one point for each starting yacht it beats.  Each yacht's score is totaled and divided by the number of races it Started.  The highest score wins.  Throw-outs in this method don't make sense because a non-participant receives 0 points, and your worst finishes are scores with a small number of points. However you have the option of setting throwouts if you wish. Another consideration is that each racer may be given different points for the same finish if different races. The more boats you beat, the more points you get.

High Fixed Point Method:

A First receives the highest score.  This highest score is pre-set by the  race committee and is set in the “Top Finisher Points” on the Scoring Methods pages for High Point.  Each subsequent finisher is scored one point less than the yacht ahead.  Each yacht's score is totaled and the highest score wins.  This method is used to even out the points for finishers by establishing a pre-set assumption about number of participants in the race. Without this setting a winner with 4 particapants earns fewer points than a winner with 15 participants. With the Top Finisher Points set the 15 for example, the winner will always earn 15 pts, second will earn 14, and so on. If the Top Score is less than the number of Starters, Race Log will use the number of Starters as the Top  Score.  This may not produce the results you are seeking so make sure your High or “Top” points are set properly

Finish Bonus does not make sense for High Fixed method since the High already set and is the same for each racer and each race.
